Senators Voinovich, DeWine and Congressman Regula Guiding Federal Funding

Congress has passed the budget bill by a large majority providing $12 million for the final design and first steps of the construction of phase of the Euclid Corridor Transportation Project.

Under the guidance of Ohio's two U.S. Senators, George V. Voinovich and Mike DeWine, the Senate passed this important legislation late last year as the RTA was preparing its application with the Federal Transit Administration for a Full Funding Grant Agreement for the ECTP.

The House, with support from Congressmen Ralph Regula of Navarre and David Hobson of Springfield – members of the Appropriations Committee – voted for approval earlier this year. In addition to the secured funding, President Bush earmarked another $25 million for the Project in his proposed budget for the coming year.

"Downtown Cleveland is seeing a revival that is creating jobs and bringing people back to the city center," says Senator Voinovich who has championed the ECTP since he was mayor of Cleveland 20 years ago. "The Euclid Corridor will help keep this momentum by better linking University Circle and downtown. It's a critical building block to continuing this exciting renewal. I'm glad I was able to help provide these funds."

"Despite the stretched federal budget, our elected officials are working diligently to make sure that the ECTP continues to get its funding," says Joseph A. Calabrese, the RTA chief executive officer and general manager.
